It seems Alexandria is truly making efforts to regain its lost glory. Known as the Pearl of the Mediterranean, this Egyptian coastal city once witnessed extreme glory but that glory faded away with the fire and earthquakes that occurred long-ago. These calamities contributed to the negligence of the city over the past decades and the country witnessed the great drop down in tourism. The city is improving the infrastructure to lure more tourists. Over the past decade, the city has spent millions restoring its infrastructure to regain its status as a tourism destination. A new luxury hotel opened this summer, a multi-storey mall with brands such as Guess and LaSenza opened last year, a new international airport on its cards are few examples. Currently, the city is witnessing an oil-fueled boom in the number of tourists and this number is anticipated to increase in upcoming years. Source: Stuff
